Sudan’s rebels brings down UN helicopter in Southern Kordofan
|
Jan 27, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) has enforced a helicopter belongs to UN World Food Program (WFP) to bring down with its eight-pilot crew and foreign workers in Southern Kordofan State Informed sources told Khartoum-based Al-Rai Al-A’am newspaper on Monday that that the helicopter came under fire from SPLM-N rebels in Bagori area. For his part, SPLM-N delegation spokesperson Mubarak Ardol said in statements that the helicopter was flying over an intense war zone, and where the Sudan air force is conducting continuous aerial bombardments against the civilian and military targets, pointing out that the crew who claim to be working with the WFP are “safe and unhurt”. “If it turns out that they are WFP staff and no relation with the Sudan government, the SPLM-N is ready for their immediate release,” the statement said. Human Rights Watch says that Sudanese government forces are conducting indiscriminate bombings and abuses against civilians in the Nuba Mountains area of Southern Kordofan, indicating that such attacks may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, and are creating a humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by the government’s denial of access to humanitarian agencies outside government-controlled towns.
