IGAD team holds consultations with Al-Bashir on South Sudan conflict
|
Khartoum-The head of t the East African Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) mediation team, Seyoum Mesfin briefed on Tuesday Sudan’s president Omer Al-Bashir on efforts to bring peace in the new South Sudan State, saying they are closer than ever to reaching agreement to stop the conflict. Mesfin conveyed to Al-Bahir a message from Ethiopian Prime Minister, Chairman of IGAD Haile Mariam Dessalines on the functioning of the mediation and the efforts of IGAD for resolving the conflict in the South Sudan . Sudanese President stressed his keenness and following closely to what is going on in South Sudan territory, noting Sudan's willingness to support and participate in all mediation efforts by IGAD to find radical and urgent solution to the crisis in the Southern State to achieve stability and peace in the region and neighboring States including Sudan. "I briefed him on the productive meetings held recently during which the parties overcome some critical issues, particularly their agreement on the principle of federalism as the system of governance in South Sudan,” Mesfin told journalist after his meeting with Al-Bahir
