Expert: Renaissance Dam does not pose danger on Sudan and Egypt
|
Khartoum-The international expert in the water legislations Prof. Salman Ahmed Salman has urged the government to reconsider the Sudanese stances and its agreements on Nile water, saying that the benefits of Sudan from the Nile water did not exceed 12 billion cubic meters. He said that Sudan has failed to utilize more than 350 billion cubic meters during the past years, stressing the necessity of reviewing the reasons behind this failure. Speaking to the Sudanese Media Center on Monday, Prof. Salman underestimated the size of dangers of the establishment of the Ethiopian renaissance dam on Sudan and Egypt. He said that the Ethiopian dam could fill the gap in the Sudanese electricity by 40% and remove the silts in the Blue Nile. On his part, the counselor of the Egyptian embassy in Sudan said that while Egypt cooperating with the Nile basin countries and all African countries in all fields, it sticks to its historical rights in the Nile water. He said that the “word dispute or conflict is not in our dictionary. It is dialogue, discussion and cooperation”.
