KHARTOUM 28 May 2020 – In support of the Federal Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 response, UNICEF has procured and shipped 14.25 metric tonnes of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) items costing around half a million USD, to protect health personnel and essential workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 response across Sudan. The shipment arrived at Khartoum International Airport on Thursday and will be distributed across the states.
In addition to the PPE supplies, the first of three batches of oxygen concentrators arrived. This lifesaving medical equipment will help treat severe cases of COVID-19 and will be distributed to isolation centers throughout the country.
Together with the previously locally procured shipments UNICEF has so far provided 35 metric tonnes of PPEs, part of which have been distributed among health personnel in hospitals and isolation centers in Khartoum, Blue Nile, Central Darfur, East Darfur, Gedarif, Kassala, North Darfur, Northern State, Red Sea, Sennar, West Darfur, North Kordofan, West Kordofan, South Kordofan and White Nile.
