The European Union condemns in the strongest terms the assassination attempt against H.E. Abdullah Hamdok, Prime Minister of the Sudan, which occurred in Khartoum this morning.
This shocking incident should not impair the ongoing efforts to build a stable, peaceful, just and free Sudan.
The European Union stands resolutely behind the Sudanese democratic transition and urges all Sudanese to exercise utmost restraint, and to use peaceful means in support of their national aspirations for peace, justice and freedom for all.
Joseph Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission tweeted:
"Shocked to hear about the assassination attempt against Prime Minister Hamdok.
The European Union will continue standing by Sudan to support the transition. There is no step backward possible: the ideals of the revolution have to be preserved."
