British Minister visits Khartoum on Monday
|
Jan 23, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-British Secretary of State for International Development, Alan Duncan, will arrive at Sudanese capital, Khartoum on Monday in three-day official visit during which he will hold talks with Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ali Karti, and several senior officials in the State to discuss the ways to develop cooperation in the area of development and strengthening relations between Khartoum and London. The British official will visit Darfur region to assess the situation and meet with officials there. More than 1.4 million displaced people still rely on food handouts in camps throughout Darfur, and many others have fled the country. The multi-layered conflict has also done colossal damage to Sudan's image: The US and many Western activists have accused the government of genocide. Even before the war broke out, Darfur was in trouble. Like many of the regions on Sudan's periphery, it was underdeveloped and politically marginalized. Diminishing rainfall over decades had made life precarious in Darfur, leading to recurring food shortages.
