STUDENT TORTURED IN KHARTOUM
SVTG can report that Nagi Marghani Mohamed Salih,a 24 year old member of the Student Democratic Front, was arrested at 3.30pm on Saturday 2 March 2002 and taken to Security Forces offices near Farough Cemetery (Maghabir Farough) in Khartoum.Nagi is a 4th year student at Omdurman College of Technological Science.
During his detention, Nagi was severely tortured.He was beaten with water hoses and empty bottles on different parts of his body, and sustained severe injuries to his ear, chest, back and legs.He was also threatened with rape using an empty cola bottle.
Nagi was forced to sign a statement saying that he is an employee of the security forces with a salary of Ls 500,000.He was also made to sign a document confirming that he had supplied the security forces with a list of names of students classified according to political affiliation.
The Security forces threatened that if Nagi did not co-operate with them he would be dismissed from his University.
Nagi was released at 9pm on the same day.
The names of the Security officers who torture Nagi are: Mohamed Abdullah, Izeldin, Bashir, and Faris.
Amir Mohamed Suleiman, a lawyer and member of SVTG staff, has decided to represent Nagi Marghani Mohamed Salih and has filed a formal complaint about his treatment to the authorities.
SVTG condemns the use of torture and is very concerned by the systematic persecution of students carried out by the Security Forces in Sudan.
SVTG urges the government of Sudan :
i) To guarantee the personal safety of Nagi Marghani Mohamed Salih
ii)To prohibit the use of torture which contravenes the Government of Sudan’s international obligations, with regard to article 5 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and article 7 of The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states;No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. (Article 5) Sudan has also signed the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Although signature has not yet been followed by ratification, the Sudan has, by signing, shown the intention to accept the obligations under this Convention and, under customary international law, as reflected in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, is obligated not to do anything which would defeat the object and purpose of the Convention against Torture, pending a decision on ratification. In addition to the obligations arising from conventional international law, the Sudan is also bound to respect the standards of international customary law.
iii)To ensure the physical and psychological integrity of all prisoners in Sudan and guarantee their right to free trial.
iv.)To ensure in all circumstances respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with international human rights standards.

You are doing a good job by posting such news just 2 days after it happened. although all the security offices has a very bad reputation among the Sudanese, but that office near Magabir farouq seems to be the bad one.
Please to all, keep tracing them and inform the SVTG with any cases you know, let us prevent them form doing that, they are coward, yes all of them, from their president to the lower security man in their government. For those who didn’t experience the security men in Sudan, You can’t believe that they are Sudanese. I don’t know from where they brought them, and where did they train them.
Don’t say that it doesn’t concern you, you will be the next, so keep tracing them.

و ليس عبد الجبار
لزم التنويه لحساسية الامر وتعلقه بممارسات للتعذيب كوقائع تاريخية مرصودة

The only way to protect basic freedoms is through democratic institutions, and the rule of law overseen by an independent judiciary.
Ingaz extemporaneous good will will not do given their pedigree and history!
