7th ROUND OF THE INTER-SUDANESE PEACE TALKS
OF THE CONFLICT IN DARFUR

The AU Special Envoy and the Sudanese Vice-President
Exchange Views on the Peace Process

The African Union Special Envoy and Chief Mediator for the Darfur Peace Talks, Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, today Monday 10 April 2006, met with the Vice-President of the Republic of The Sudan, H.E. Ali Ousman Mohammed Taha. The Special Envoy was accompanied by the Head of the AU Mediation Team, Ambassador Sam B. Ibok.

Dr Salim and Vice-President Taha reviewed the outcome of the high-level consultations which took place over the week-end at the initiative of H.E. Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo and the Current Chairman of the African Union. They also exchanged views on the progress made in the on-going negotiations, and on how to overcome the outstanding issues in the Peace Process.

The Sudanese Vice-President assured the AU Special Envoy of his continued commitment to the Peace Process, and the preparedness of the Government of the Sudan to work with the Parties in the negotiations, to find a lasting solution to the conflict in Darfur.
