The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Mission in the
Sudan, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe has returned to Khartoum yesterday after a consultative visit to the African Union Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa. While in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Kingibe briefed in turn African Ambassadors accredited to the African Union as well as Representatives of the African Union partners on current developments in Darfur and preparations of the 7th Round of the Abuja Talks which are now rescheduled for November 28st, instead of November 21st, 2005 for logistical reasons.
Ambassador Kingibe will be in El Fasher tomorrow to officially receive the first consignment of the AU’s Canadian donated 105 Armored Personnel Carriers as well as have a luncheon meeting with the SLM/A factional leader, Mr. Mini Minawi Arkoi and his colleagues. Subsequently, Ambassador Kingibe, with a United States Government delegation led by the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Jeyndice Frazer, will continue on going efforts to have a meeting at which Mr. Minawi and Mr. Abdul Waheed Al Nur whose position as SLM/A President Mr. Minawi is challenging will be present.
