STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE AFRICAN MISSION IN SUDAN: CIVILIAN POLICE COMMISSIONER: COMMISSIONER ANAND PILLAY
Progress in Zam zam IDP camp
The mandate of the Africa Union In Sudan (AMIS) Civilian Police (CIVPOL) is coming to the aid of the Internally Displaced People (IDP’s) in the Zam zam IDP camp in El Fasher.
In recent developments at the IDP camp, the members of CIVPOL and Government of Sudan (GOS) Police came to an agreement to work together to achieve the targets set in the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA). For the first time now, joint patrols are executed and a close working relationship is maintained to ensure the adherence and compliance of the CFA.
The Station commander at Zamzam police station, Major Aly Negm has in the short time since he has been appointed, managed to co-ordinate the relevant role players to ensure the responsibilities entrusted upon them be executed and devoted. A closer working relation between the Non Government Organisations (NGO’s) has also been secured and as a well-oiled mechanical machine the affected people in Zamzam is now receiving what they are due.
We hope and trust that the good working relation between GOS Police and Zamzam CIVPOL personnel will not only just continue, but also rub off on other stations and organisations to ensure that we continue with the mandate and objective set, to end the violence in Sudan
I wish to commend the people from Zamzam and congratulate them with their involvement and dedication.
