Cairo, Dec. 22 (SUNA)- The Commercial Attache at Sudan Embassy to Egypt, Fuad Ibrahim Farah, said that Sudan and Egypt have affirmed in bilateral meetings the importance of the establishment of basic infrastructures between the two countries such as roads and railways toward pushing ahead the trade exchange between them. In a press statement to SUNA, he said that the two countries have adopted practical steps to implement the project of a coastal highway between the Egyptian Sewais and Port-Sudan cities, adding that the construction of this road is due to be completed in the year 2006. Farah also indicated that the two sides also agreed on establishment of a river line between Dongola - Halfa - Gastal, adding funding for this project was provided. He pointed out that the volume of the trade exchange between Sudan and Egypt which amounted to 175 million dollars, a matter which below the aspiration of the two countries. The Commercial Attache said that the joint Higher Sudanese - Egyptian Committee called in it recent meeting for increase of the trade exchange between the two countries and removal of any hinders in this regard. He said that the recent meeting of the Joint Higher Committee also stressed the importance of reactivating the trade of meat between Sudan and Egypt, adding that the Egyptian Prime Minister underscored during his meeting with Sudanese and Egyptian businessmen, on the sidelines of the Joint Higher Committee's meeting, the competitive quality of the Sudanese meet and the capacity of the Egyptian market to absorb a bigger quantity of the Sudanese meat. Farah quoted the Egyptian Prime Minister as telling the Sudanese and Egyptian businessmen that Egypt was importing around 250,000 tons of Sudanese meet per year. He told SUNA that the camel trade between Sudan and Egypt is progressing well. MO/MO
