TAHA REAFFIRMS GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO IMPLEMENTATION OF CPA AND REALIZATION OF PEACEFUL SOLUTION FOR DARFUR ISSUE

Khartoum, Nov. 17 (SUNA)- Vice-President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha has reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and realization of peaceful solution for Darfur issue. This came when Taha received at the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers Thursday the Netherlands Special Envoy for Peace. Taha said several legislative and executive steps have been made under full political desire of all parties to implement the peace agreement. The Vice-President called on the international community to fulfill its commitments and pledges made in Oslo Conference towards the peace process, as financing represents the major challenge in implementation of the agreement. Taha reviewed with the Netherlands Envoy for Peace the situation in Darfur and the efforts exerted by the government for finding a peaceful settlement besides the ongoing preparations for the coming peace negotiations in Abuja, where the government will participate with a delegation comprising all parties of the National Unity Government. The Vice-President affirmed the importance of pressures by the international community on the armed movements in Darfur to be committed to a clear political vision and sincere desire for realizing a peaceful political solution. Taha also tackled the Sudanese- Eritrean relations and the ongoing steps to overcome the obstacles, which face them. HH/BT
