Sudan, Uganda extend security protocol up to June

KHARTOUM, May 16, 2005 (SUNA) -- Sudan and Uganda have agreed to extend the security protocol signed between the two sides up to the end of coming June.
The two sides have expressed during the joint meeting held between the Defense Minister, Major General Bakri Hassan Salih, and his Ugandan counterpart Amama Mbabazi, their desire to develop joint relations and strengthen them further.

The two sides have also said they would work and cooperate with each other for further cementing the bilateral relations between Khartoum and Kampala for the security and stability in the region.

The Ugandan defense minister Amama Mbabazi, had called during the one day visit to Khartoum, on the President of the Republic Omer Al-Bashir and reviewed with him measures to prevent any activities by the Ugandan rebel group, the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) as well as preparing the atmosphere for the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM).

They also talked about the implementation of the IGAD plan for boosting peace and stability in Somalia and dispatching African forces there.
