ASMARA, Eritrea, 21 June 2005 (ERINA) -- John Garang, leader of SPLM, arrived in Asmara today to hold discussion with President Isaias Afwerki and senior Eritrean government officials on developments in the Sudan, and the outcome of his visits to the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
The SPLM leader pointed out that in accordance with the agreement reached in Cairo on 8 June 2005 between the Sudanese government and the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA) providing for the participation of the Alliance to take part in the formulation of Sudan's constitution, 17 members of the NDA have already arrived in Khartoum. On the Darfur and Eastern Sudan issue, John Garang declared: "We sympathize with the Darfur and Easter Sudan question, and hence special seat has been reserved for them. Moreover, we shall work to ensure a comprehensive peace in the Sudan."
