MOSCOW. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Sudan has fully supported the Russian response to the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia.
"We would like to express full support of the Sudanese government to all the steps taken by Russia in the Caucasus. The Russian steps were correct and aimed at regional peace, stability and development," Special Representative of the Sudanese President Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.
"If the United States considers it right to protect national interests thousands of kilometers away from the national territory, say, in Iraq or Afghanistan, Russia has much more right to protect its interests along the national frontier," he said.
"We wanted to save people. We managed to prevent a big tragedy," Lavrov replied.
