SOUTHERN SUDANESE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN UNITY AS AN OPTION ..
Khalid Hassan Samiltoud –[email protected]
The recent uprising and demonstrations staged by Sudanese people reflect the complete malcontents and disgruntling actions from the civilian masses who suffered patiently all the kinds of abuses and hostile actions which the regime inflicted on them in order to grip the power and authority to the detriment of poor Sudanese people in various regions from Darfur until eastern Sudan . The government applied the complete marginalization on eastern Sudanese , Darfur , Nuba Mountains and northern Sudan , without complete participation of those people in the central government or in policy-making strategies . Now the economy of Sudan is in ramshackle and is crumbling because of the regime faulted policies that resulted in cutting fuel subsidies and the tentative objectives of this dictator regime to focus on agricultural resources rather than putting comprehensive strategy that aims at prospecting and exploring oils in Darfur and western sudan . even sudan was listed on some international organizations lists as the first failed state and the country where there is rampant corruption and poverty , despite our wealthy resources in the field of mining , agriculture and gold mining . so instead of concentrating on building the economy boom , the ruling regime began to allocate most of the country resources for the benefit of importing and procuring large fleet of combat –helicopters and military aircrafts to crush insurgency movements in Darfur and Nuba Mountains !! those are not insurgents , but Sudanese citizens who are calling for their representation in power , fair distributions of wealth and power and instating development in these volatile regions which are combat hotspots facing relentless government military operations against its own people . I think that UN had miscalculated the situations in Darfur and Nuba Mountains , saying that what transpired there constitutes crimes against humanity without referring to the general term Genocide . The regime has been committing genocide since its usurpation of power in 1989 , after it abused southern Sudanese people , killing them in a very sordid actions by unleashing heavy bombardments on southern villages , killing millions of them in a massive campaigns calculated to bring about a complete physical and social destruction in southern Sudan , implanting Arab tribal masters to hunt southern people in jungles in an attempted operation labeled as “slave trade “ . Southern people were entitled to have their own independent state from the outset , because they suffered a lot from this pariah regime , they even said that they were being treated as citizens from the second class!!!! . I stress here that this phenomenon was not existed in the history of Sudan except in the periods of this kizan government . Khartoum regime even considered them as outcasts because they were calling for their own freedom , to be independent people away from slavery , bondage and genuflection . Khartoum regime denied them their fundamental rights in worship , intermarriage and have dignified life in the north , despite the fact that most of southern people were gradually converting to Islam and most of them are now Muslims with their mosques in Juba or Malkal . This oppressive regime would have made their unity an attractive option , if it had employed diplomatic relations in dealing with those southern people , because we still consider them as our brothers and sisters . We loved our southern brothers , but unfortunately this despot regime precluded this love and planted hatreds on our souls and feeling against those good people . Even this regime failed completely to adopt confederation policy towards southern Sudan . The late SPLM leader Dr. John Garang was keen to make unity attractive to all south Sudanese people , he even unleashed his famous adage (New Sudan) , a country that hosts all people , despite their differences in color , race , language , culture and ethnicity ect. Garang was indulgent with Khartoum regime , he was calling for tolerance , love and peaceful –coexistence and unity . If Garang was alive he would choose unity for sudan , he would even control the separatists inside SPLM leadership , but his death was serious setback for all Sudanese people who were eager for this moment in the history of Sudan . Unity either by actual referendum , or a unilateral declaration of unity by southern Sudanese people . The ruthless regime in Khartoum missed this golden opportunity in the history of sudan , and the NCP would be held accountable for all it did in the history , because the country is now on the verge of breakdown and fragmentation ,due to its hostile policy against the sons and daughters of our Sudan , employing an outlaw-security apparatus to inflict scariness on people , humiliating them and using intimidation against all political forces who call for freedom of participation in power and policy –making . All these faulted policies and the bad exploitation of power are responsible for the complete deterioration of economy . The Khartoum regime will pay for that …
