Khartoum, 5 June (SUNA) - The Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Sunday rejected allegations and claims cited by the American Administration to renew keeping the name of the Sudan in the list of the countries sponsors of terrorism, stressing that the government of the Sudan is well aware of its commitment towards combating fundamentalism in all its forms and shapes regionally and internationally.

The Ministry in a release it issued on Sunday said Sudan will continue with its effort and cooperation with the international community in this regard.

The statement said the Ministry expresses its strongest regret over keeping the name of the Sudan within the so-called list of countries sponsor of international terrorism, as reported in the annual report of the US State Department on the status of terrorism in the world for the year 2015.

The FM statement was critical of the fact that the name of the Sudan was maintained in this list which is subject so politicization despite Sudan tremendous cooperation with the international community, including the United States of America, in the field of combating terrorism in all its forms and shapes.

The FM statement pinpointed that the American reports have recognized the great cooperation made by the Sudan in this context through its active membership in the American Partnership for East Africa which was established in 2009 and which is active in the terrorism combating fields, through inhibting the operational capabilities and reinforcing borders security, combating activities of terrorist groups in spreading violence and fundamentalist ideologies and other fields.

The statement pointed out that the American report has recognized Sudan's cooperation in arresting the Nigerian national Amino Okoshi, an affiliate to Boko Haram movement, and handing him over to the Nigerian authorities.

The statement said retaining the name of the Sudan in the list comes at a time when Sudan continues its constructive efforts to help achieving stability, peace and security in neighboring countries and the region, through its active role in peace building and in combating terrorism in all its forms and fighting organized crimes and across border crimes and human trafficking , as well as Sudan's hosting to huge number of refugees from neighboring countries, a matter that is recognized by many of the European countries.

The statement said the reports on terrorism published annually by the American State Department continued to reaffirm Sudan's full cooperation with the United States in the fight against terrorism, but still and in contradiction to this, it maintained the name of the Sudan within the list of countries it considers sponsor of terrorism based on weak and unspecific reasons.

The statement stressed that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, while announcing its rejection for the allegations and claims cited by the US State Department for keeping the name of the Sudan within the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, would like to reaffirm that the government of the Sudan is fully aware of need to combat international terrorism, and of its commitment towards combating terrorism in all its form, regionally and internationally, and that the efforts and cooperation of the government of Sudan with the international community would continue in this respect.
