Khartoum, 11 May (SUNA) - The Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Neema Al Gasseer, has commended the huge role played by the midwives in reduction of maternal and infant death at a time the international community is working to achie4ve the objective of the sustainable development, pointing out to the need to invest further in midwives education and training .
The WHO representative who was addressing the meeting of the world midwives day held in Omdurman Midwives school, said the midwives presence represent the difference between life and death as they contribute in reducing the death of at least one there of mothers that is millions of infants lives were saved around the globe in some 73 countries where 96% of the death occurs at birth because 42% of them do not have midwives or nurses or doctors.
She said in the Sudan one out of each 32 women are exposed to death or death at delivery time and that more than 60% of the maternal deaths are caused by delivery complications.
