Khartoum, April 12 (SUNA)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tuesday summoned the acting US Charge d'Affaires to Khartoum who was informed by the Undersecretary of the ministry, Ambassador Abdul-Ghani Al-Naeem, on Sudan strong condemnation to the statement which was issued by the US State Department concerning the administrative referendum in Darfur.
Ambassador Al-Naeem informed the American acting Charge dØŸffaires that the State Department's statement contravenes in its timing and content with the on-going peace efforts and the reality of the situation, especially that the State Department's statement came following the government's signing to the road-map document which was welcomed by the US administration.
The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry said that the US State Department's statement has sent erroneous message in the wrong timing and came complementary to the series of false American pledges.
He said that the referendum is considered a civilized means to choose from a number of options, adding that the referendum is a good alternative to the gun option for achieving goals.
He said it was no secret that government will carry out the referendum in the current time, adding that the government of Sudan has never received any signal from the US administration that affirms its desire to engage in dialogue with Sudan on the referendum issue.
In a statement to SUNA, the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, said that the Undersecretary of the ministry has asked the acting American Charge d'Affaires to convey to his government and its western allies the call of Sudan on them to encourage elements of the Sudanese opposition and the political and military movements, who are resident in their countries, to return home to Sudan and to contribute to the re-building process in Darfur.
He said that the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry also called on the United States to play a role for realizing development in Darfur, especially that development was the main cause of the problem in Darfur.
Ambassador Al-Saddiq indicated that the acting US Charge d'Affaires stated that his country looks forward to have effective contribution to the solution of Darfur issue and the realization of peace.
He said that the acting US Charge d'Affaires said at the meeting that his country does not encourage fighting, acts of violence and separation.
He said that the US diplomat also stated that his country wants to be an honest partner of Sudan and will urge the movements rejecting peace to sign the road-map document.
