The chairman of the Sudanese National Dialogue Committee on Governance, Barakat Mousa El Hawati said that “unanimous agreement” has been reached on drafting a new Constitution.
The new Constitution will affirm the independence of the judiciary, the rule of law, separation of powers and good governance,” El Hawati said at a forum commemorating the 60th anniversary of Sudan’s independence on 1 January 1956.
“If the outcomes of the national dialogue are implemented, Sudan is bound to move to a new phase in its history,” he stated.
He described the dialogue process as “a sign of a new reading of the political and social reality that would decipher hieroglyphs that have created confrontations between the various political forces”.
The head of the Peace and Unity Committee, Mohamed El Amin Khalifa, predicted that that “the coming year 2016 will be the year of peace and stability.
“Sudan will transcend the critical political situation through the ongoing dialogue,” he said, and stressed that a decentralised system of governance is “suitable for Sudan because of its size and diversity”.
He further said that Islamic values and patriotism are to be enhanced to “protect the homeland from fragmentation”.andnbsp; <
