Sudan Ambassador to Egypt, Abdul-Mahmoud Abdul-Halim, said that the inauguration of Ashket - Qostol crossing was a landmark event in the cooperation and integration between Sudan and Egypt. In a statement to SUNA, Ambassador Abdul-Halim indicated that the crossing's inauguration came as part of the positive progress being witnessed in the Sudanese - Egyptian relations at both the official and people's levels. He said that the land road between the two countries will lead to enhancing the investment and economic relations between Sudan and Egypt, referring to the progress in arrival of the Sudanese products in Egypt and North African and arrival of the Egyptian exports at the Sudanese market and in African neighboring countries during the past eight months which were assigned for experimental operation of Qostol - Ashket crossing. He said that establishment of the crossing has resulted in decreasing the transport cost by 70%. Ambassador Abdul-Halim announced that procedures are underway to open the western crossing which links between Argen - Alexandria. Meanwhile, Ambassador Abdul-Halim announced that the joint Sudanese - Egyptian higher committee would meet in Cairo after inauguration of the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, toward establishing great joint economic, trade and cultural projects, including a free trade zone.
