The acting ChargĂ© d'affaires of Sudan’s Permanent Mission in New York Hassan Hamed has called on the head of the U.N Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to condemn the dastardly attacks launched by the rebel Sudan’s People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in South Kordofan State which aimed to disrupt the elections and deprive the citizens to exercise their constitutional right, saying that such attacks are against the innocent civilians is condemnable in the strongest words.
Sudan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations issued on Thursday a press release indicating that attacks carried out by SPLM-N in many areas in South Kordofan have resulted in the killing of more than 149 civilians, including more than 50 children and the majority of victims are women, with injuring of more than 200 civilians and displacement of more than (17,000) from their homes.
The rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), which has been fighting government forces in the area for over a year, claims that Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) launch attacks on civilians regularly and accuse the Khartoum government of conducting frequent aerial raids in the Nuba Mountains
In May, Human Rights Watch accused the Sudanese government of "indiscriminate bombings and abuses against civilians" in the Nuba Mountains area of Southern Kordofan. Conflict in the area has displaced tens of thousands of people, many of whom are now housed in refugee camps in South Sudan.
