A member of the Islamic Jurisprudential Council of Sudan issued a fatwa on Friday, stating that it is not allowed to vote for the incumbent President Al Bashir in the forthcoming election.

Dr Yousef El Koda called on all Sudanese “not to vote for Al Bashir and his aides, as casting a vote means to acknowledge responsibility before God Almighty.

“Based on this assumption,” he stated, “the Sudanese cannot vote for a regime that came to power by deceit”.

Pointing to the 1989 military coup by Omar Al Bashir, reportedly directed by Dr Hassan El Turabi, El Koda said: “Did not one of them acknowledge that he told Al Bashir: You will enter the palace as president, while I shall be in prison?”

“The Sudanese cannot vote for a regime that came to power by deceit.”

The Islamic scholar stressed that “What is built on falsehood remains false.

“The failing rule during all those years proves the proverb. The country lost a third of its territory [South Sudan] and wars broke out in most of the corners of the country.

“Injustice, the loss of morality, and trade in religion are now prevailing. No one in Sudan can find a job nor live a proper life, except the members of the ruling party.”
