Sudan’s President, Omar al-Bashir, stressed that the disputed area of Abyei is Sudanese and it will remain so, promising to link the areas to the national road network, development and services, vowing to end the insurgency and bring peace in Kordofan and the completion of development in all parts of the country.
Addressing rally in the capital of the West Kordofan state Al Foula on Thursday, al-Bashir launched a fierce attack on the rebels of Sudan’s People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), describing them as agents who fighting for cause not theirs , sending a message to the young people who are fighting with the rebels to back to build their country
“We have one message to the deceived youth who are still carrying arms. Look at the SPLM-programme of the New Sudan what it did in South Sudan; we do not want the destruction that happened there to move here." Al-Bashir added
He vowed to put an end to the rebellion in all parts of Kordofan state to complete the renaissance in the state, urging the Misseriya tribes in the state not to fight each other
In line with Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the residents of the disputed area have to hold a referendum to determine whether Abyei will remain part of the Sudan or join the South Sudan. But the two countries failed to agree on the participation of the Misseriya pastoralists who reside there several months every year.
