December 21, 2014-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The head of Darfur peace follow-up office, Amin Hassan Omer, announced that the government would take harsh measures to disarm heavy weapons from the hands of the armed parties and the warring tribes of Darfur.
In a press release on Saturday, Omer said that the UN Committee visiting the country currently recognized existence of peace in many areas in Darfur, pointing out that The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) will withdraw from those areas, noting the level of the security challenge in Darfur has decreased due to the change in the type of challenge itself after, adding that the conflict was between the armed movements and now turned into a tribal conflict the Government will resolve it through reconciliation
He disclosed that a national symposium will be held in the near future in cooperation with The Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) to discuss disarmament process, stressing that the State would not rule out any option, including plan being applied to the ground regarding disarmament, noting that this was one of the demands of all tribes in Om Garas Conference
