NYALA

(

The downpour in South Darfur accompanied by strong winds has brought destruction to classrooms and tents in Kalma camp for the displaced people on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Saleh Eisa Mohamed, the Secretary-General of Kalma, reported to Radio Dabanga that the rains heavily damaged 16 basic school classrooms, around 700 tents and three centres belonging to a food distributor.

The rain and wind lasted for three and a half hours, from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. Saleh Mohamed added that the inventory of the losses in the camp in Nyala locality is still ongoing.

The Secretary-General revealed that there are about 5,860 families registered since August by international refugee organisations, who have not received any non-food aid so far, such as plastic sheets, blankets, and utensils.

“The International Organization for Migration registered about 3,700 families in May and June,” Saleh Mohamed added. He called on the humanitarian organisations and the international community to provide non-food assistance to the victims of the rains.
