ABU KARAYNKA

(

A hospital in Khartoum has received 27 wounded members of the Ma'aliya tribe on Friday, who sustained their injuries during the fighting with the Rizeigat tribe in Um Rakuba, East Darfur, this week.

The 27 patients who were transferred to Khartoum sustained various injuries such as fractures and wounds,” a Member of Parliament for the Abu Karinka constituency, Hamdan Abdallah Tirab, told Radio Dabanga. There were 70 wounded Ma'aliya in total, following the fighting on Wednesday, he confirmed.

A Ma'aliya member from Um Rakuba area told Radio Dabanga that large numbers of people are moving from the centre of Abu Karinka locality to other safe areas belonging to the Ma'aliya. “Especially women, children, and the elderly are fleeing to other areas.”

The source reported that the 123 bodies of the Ma'aliya who were killed on Wednesday have been buried in mass graves in Um Rakuba. “There were 19 women amongst the deaths, whom were buried in a separate mass grave.”

He described the humanitarian situation in and around Um Rakuba as “bad”. He stressed that the government has not allowed the delivery of aid to the area for a long time, and not even now, in the heat of the inter-tribal clashes.
