Khartoum-A number of journalists gathered at the National Press Council for Press on Sunday protesting the harassment and restrictions on the Sudanese press and journalists by the Sudanese government. They also protested the suspending Al-Saiha newspaper and opening cases against its journalists.
The Press attorney questioned on Sunday the head of the political section of Al-Maidan newspaper Ibrahim Merghani and the editor in chief of Al-Maidan newspaper Madiha Abdallah in connection with the complaint made by the security service.
Journalist Islam Al-Amin who works for Al-tagyeer newspaper, the editor in chief of Al-jareeda newspaper Idris Aldoma and journalist Lubna Abdalla are expected to appear before the same court for investigations with regard to publishing issues.
On its part, Journalists for human rights network has denounced the government harassment on the press, saying that the goal of the government crackdown on the press aims to intimidate journalists and force them into exercising self-censorship or accept cooperation with the security services through passing its agendas.
The lands attorney arrested last Thursday the editor in chief of Al-Saiha newspaper Yasir Mahjoub and summoned writer Salah Awooda and head of Al-hawadith (incidents) section Hafiz Al-Khair for investigations in connection with the complaints against the newspaper with regard to publishing stories of corruption of senior officials.
