Final verdict on Christian female doctor expected today

Khartoum-Al-Haj Yousif criminal court is due to issue its final verdict on the case of the Christian female doctor under articles 126 and 146 of the Sudanese criminal code. The female doctor faces charges of apostasy and adultery. The female doctor was given three days to declare repentance or face the capital punishment.

The European Union delegation in Sudan said that they received the legal defense team of Doctor Mariam Ibrahim which was convicted of apostasy. The EU diplomats got acquainted with the developments of the case and its impact on the religious tolerance and human rights.

EU representatives in Sudan have said that they fully respect the independence of the Sudanese judiciary, pointing out that the respect of religion freedoms is part of the world human rights that should be protected anywhere and for everybody.

They cited that Sudan has international obligation to defend and consolidate the freedom of religion.
