Kharoum-The South Sudan rebels have accused the government forces to destroy the hometown of their leader Reik Machar in a vilaotion of the cease fire agreement, and pointed out that the army is getting support from foreign fighters.
The Associated Press has quoted the rebels’ spokesman as saying that the government forces of the SPLM and fighters from the Justice and Equality Movement, which is a rebel movement from the northern borders, have destroyed Leer town on Saturday, and massacred women and children while they were trying to escape.
An army spokesman has said that he did not received any report on the fighting in Leer., where the Doctors without Borders said last week that over 200 of its staff were forced to leave due to the deterioration of the security situations.
The accusation between the two sides come as the monitors from east Africa started to arrive in South Sudan to observe the cease fire after 7 weeks of the outbreak of violence in Juba and other parts of the country.
The rebels’ spokesman said that the forces of President Salva Kiir have completely burned down Leer town and the surrounding villages, saying that the destruction of the Leer town in the Unity state has no strategic, military or tactical importance. He said that it was purely for the psychological satisfaction.
He added that the Ugandan army has provided aerial and land support for the South Sudan army in the fighting to recapture towns the rebels had seized before the cease fire.
The spokesman of the Ugandan army has described as cheap lies the allegations of the rebels.
