Khartoum-Sudanese authorities have launched the national campaign to promote maternal and child health for the 2013-2015, which aims to reduce infant mortality rate to 41% and 42% for women.

During his speech on the inauguration campaign on Thursday, Sudan's Second Vice President, Al-Haj Adam Yusuf, stressed Sudan's commitment to cooperation with international organizations and friendly States to allocate the necessary resources for the plan, pointing out that although Sudan has been facing unfair actions and economic sanctions, but the State is doing its part to take care of mothers and children despite these obstacles.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Health Minister, Bahar Abu Garda, confirmed that his ministry will commit to the national plan and full coordination with international partners, calling for support for the implementation of the plan.

For his part, The Executive Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Khartoum explained that the plan aims to reduce the mortality rate of children and women by 2015, adding to the death of 2,500 children due to preventable causes.
