The Power of Human Spirit...True Stories

This is one of my dream topics to write about and share it with others...the power of human spirit to overcome obstacles and challenges of life...
I am always fascinating by true stories of simple and ordinary people who were able to overcome difficulties and extraordinary circumstances to
reach their goals and achieve their dreams in life...It could be a simple dream or a big one...it doesn't matter as long as it is important to them...
those people believe that the sky is the limit for what they want...never listen or pay much attention to negative voices around them...never stop
believing in themselves...and not only lifting themselves from bottom to a higher ground but able to pull others with them as well...as the ultimate
joy is always the joy of GIVING...

Re: The Power of Human Spirit...True Stories (Re: جواهر ابراهيم)

I hope one story one day can inspire someone reading or listening to it and start thinking differently about the possibility that things can get better or changed
when you believe and work hard to achieve what you want... and it is possible because someone else did it so you too can do it.
I know some of us might think sharing their personal stories of success might not be comfortable thing to do as it might be perceived as "not being humble" or
"showing off" or just simply shy to share...please remember the goal and the intension of writing and sharing it is to inspire others...so, please friends share your
story if you have any or story of someone you know and you can hide the identity if needed...

Khadejah Williams: From Homless to Harvard (Re: جواهر ابراهيم)

Khadejah Willilams an African American girl born to a 14 your old mother in west coast area of USA.
She attended 12 different schools in 12 years period because she and her mother were homeless and
did not have one place to live…always moving form back and forth shelters to motels and to street…not sure when will
be the next meal…she developed survival skills on how to find food “often form garbage bags”…because
of the frequent moves she was always behind in school and had to study hard to catch up on curriculums…
she was bullied because according to her “she is poor and different and read too much”...there were no
other family to turn to…despite all that she managed to stay out of troubles…she never smoked, drink or did drugs.
She was coping by reading a lot, anything readable could be food labels, newspapers, books and sometimes 4 books
in one month she was reading a lot just to keep her mind away from her chaotic life.
Khadijah graduated with high honors, fourth in her class. She was accepted to more than 20 universities but chose
    a full scholarship to Harvard.

    Read more here:
    http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jun/20/local/me-harvard20
I watched a full episode in Oprah Show about her.
    .
    .
When I read this story and watched it on TV, came to my mind those hundreds of children back home
who are now at this moment living in a similar condition as Khadejah or even worse and beyond the imagination...
no place to call home...some are living under rocks and in refugee camps with no hope for a better future...
what if things could be different and they are able to go to school?? What if no more war, just peace, equality and justice??
What if they don't have to think about whether or not they will find the next meal?? what if they just have to be kids and feel
safe with no worries???? What if...what if...what if.................................................??? Ahhhhhhhhhhh ya balad

Tererai Trent (Re: جواهر ابراهيم)

A powerful story of a woman named Tererai Trent, born and raised in Zembabwe…She was denied to go to school by her father as most of girls
in her village did not have right for education…the only role for them is to help at home or get married and raise their children. Her mother installed in
her the value of education as the only way to change her future and break the cycle of poverty. At age of 11 and half she got married and had children.
Despite being a mother raising her kids in an abusive marriage, she was able to achieve her dreams of high education in USA…and continue to give back
    to her community in Africa...amazing..!!

Listen to her story in this video:
