You’re absolutely right. What African dictators are trying to do now is supporting each other. African Union is trying to convince SC members to establish a truth and reconciliation commission to deal with the situation in Sudan as far as regards past human rights violations and atrocities. The problem is that the time is running out and the SC has to reach a decision whether to refer accusers to the ICC or to find a compromise. Frankly speaking I’m not optimistic regarding referral to the ICC unless China has changed its position but it makes no difference for me as long as perpetrators of war crimes and atrocities have been brought to justice under internationally recognized tribunal. But let’s hope and do our best to lobby for the referral to the ICC.
