Khartoum, Jan. 24 (SUNA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, and representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the Commission for Human Rights and heads of concerned committees Wednesday reviewed in a meeting the conditions of the Sudanese nationals in Libya and the situation of the Sudanese citizens who were abducted and tortured by gangs there.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's External Relations Committee, Dr. Mutwakil Mahmoud Al-Tigani.
Prof. Ghandour has called on all the Sudanese nationals to avoid travelling to Libya and to adopt the legal means for travelling.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Tigani said that a number of Sudanese nationals have been tortured in Libya, adding that a number of families are affected by this situation.
He expressed his pleasure over the release of the abducted Sudanese nationals in Libya, indicating that their immigration to Libya was illegal, stressing that the government, the concerned authorities and the Parliament should follow up the conditions of the Sudanese nationals in Libya.
Members of the committee and the speakers at the meeting have appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the security authorities for release of the Sudanese nationals who were tortures by radical groups in Libya.
They called for efforts for release of a number of Sudanese nationals who are now in Libyan prisons.
They also called for reactivation of the protocols on the exchange of convicts to serve the remaining period of imprisonment in their home country.
