Details of the attempted slaughter in Khartoum 2: At the Abdul-Munim Mosque, the shoe-shining boy was sitting, as usual, in front of the western door of the mosque, mending or polishing shoes from dawn until evening prayer every day for several years. He would return home exhausted, with some money in his pocket, hoping it would protect him from theft or homelessness. This did not sit well with the imam of the mosque, known for his affiliation with a hardline group from which emerged the perpetrator of the dawn prayer massacre using a bulldozer, the killer of the American embassy employee and his Sudanese Muslim driver, and many others. The imam asked the child to pray first, then begin his work. The child refused, explaining that his job required him not to be present during the prayer, as worshippers left their shoes with him for guarding and cleaning. The imam rejected this explanation and ordered him to leave the mosque, forbidding him from working inside or outside its premises. He showed the child a card identifying him as a member of community security and threatening to forcibly remove him. The imam threw down his work materials, expelled the child, and struck him. The boy pleaded, "Hajj, I'm here with the permission of the mosque committee. Don't destroy my belongings." At this point, the child became agitated and defended his place and tools against the imam's aggression. This occurred around eleven in the morning, and the matter was resolved, with the child returning to his work. The imam was gone for about an hour, apparently having gone to his headquarters. He returned with two men wearing short robes, wearing watches on their right wrists, with unkempt beards and large bellies, engaging in a grotesque, almost military-like display. They ambushed the child from behind, throwing a stone at him. The boy's head fell, and one of them grabbed the child's legs. The second climbed onto the boy's chest, pulled out a large knife, and began chanting "Allahu Akbar" three times, while turning the child's neck towards Mecca, preparing to slaughter him. The third, the imam, was pushing back the shocked onlookers. He was carrying the same type of knife used for the slaughter, which appeared to be the group's official weapon. Strangely, the attack on the child was meticulously planned, as if they were executing something they had practiced extensively. There was no talking, no orders, no shouting, unlike what usually happens during fights. This was despite the fact that there were three men against a child they considered an infidel for neglecting prayer and working during its designated time. At that moment, a local man, a well-known resident of Halfa, rushed forward and struck the terrorist who was crouching on the child's chest, knocking him away. The crowd, which had gathered after hearing the child's cries and screams, was horrified by the sight and attacked the three terrorists, who all fled. The crowd managed to apprehend two members of the group and handed them over to the police of the Central District, whose patrol was having breakfast at a nearby restaurant. The imam fled the mosque. He is now sending threatening messages to all members of the mosque committee, anyone who testifies against him, and anyone who speaks to his children and wife, who live in the same mosque.
