00:00 AM June, 18 2016 Sudanese Online Dhanojak Obongo- My Library Short URL
Sadig Aman Khan was elected Mayor of London, England, in May 2016. He is the son of an immigrant Pakistani bus driver in Great Britain. He was born in October 8, 1970. Well educated, Khan earned a law degree from the University of North London and then worked as a human rights lawyer. Affiliated with the Labor Party of England, he served from 2005 until this year as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing a district called Tooting. As mayor of a major European western liberal city, Khan as a Muslim makes history in replacing the Conservative Party Mayor, Boris Johnson. Khan now heads the capital city of the third largest dictate in Europe. He comes from a Sunni Muslim background.
I ask now what does this mean to the world and to us here in South Sudan. This is big. The lesson is that we observe indication political transformation is underway on our earth. England teaches us that in politics there is give and take and no impossible.
A few months ago our beloved President Salva Kiir Mayaradit nominated Ambassador Mohammed Hassan Bakheit as the designated South Sudanese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and he was accepted by the King. He becomes the first ever South Sudanese Muslim Ambassador there as well as the first Muslim South Sudanese Head of Mission since our independence.
In 2011. Our congratulations to Ambassador Mohammed Hassan Bakheit. He graduated from the University of Khartoum in the1970s majoring in economics. He taught several South Sudanese generations with many of his students becoming colleagues in Foreign Service. He is eloquent in both Arabic and English languages, competent and capable as the right man in the right place.
Appointment also in our government of Shiek Althahar Bior Ajak was appointed by our beloved President as a Presidential Advisor on Muslim Affairs; means that our beloved President is making an effort to ensure diversity and egalitarianism in our structures. Minorities do count.
Mr Ustaz Althahar Biro was appointed recently by the President as Presidential Advisor on Muslim Affairs. The first Muslim South Sudanese by then was Ustaz Abdullah Deng Nhial , as Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources.
These are positive political measures to foster our domestic policy with positive discrimination for ethnic and religious minorities.
Thus, we need to thank our beloved leader for that. We borrow from our brethren Arabs in saying:” Whoever does not thank people, will not thank God”. We appreciate the political model and pattern of Great Britain. God bless our leadership.
