    Demonstrations in El Fasher
    A peaceful pro-Government march took place today 12 February 2009 in El Fasher in support of the President. The march proceeded from the town's center to the gates of UNAMID Headquarters, where it dispersed shortly after lunchtime. A petition was delivered to UNAMID by the Sudanese Youth Association of North Darfur requesting the UN to stop the issuance of the arrest warrant against the President.

    Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR) visit to Nyala South Darfur
    DJSR Anyidoho travelled to Nyala, South Darfur, on a two-day visit. Yesterday, he met with the Wali (Governor) who assured that the South Darfur Government is serious about its responsibility of protecting civilians. During the second day of his visit, the DJSR visited Otash IDP camp to examine the rehabilitation of the Psychotherapy Clinic and Training Centre. This project is one of 99 Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) approved and funded by UNAMID to date.

    A meeting in Shangil Tobaya North Darfur
    On 10 Feb 09, the Location Company Commander of Shangil Tobaya,North Darfur, South of EL Fasher organized a meeting between representatives of the Government of Sudan (GoS) and of the Sudan Liberation Army Minawi faction (SLA-M) at the Company location with the aim of creating a better working relationship between them. The meeting ended peacefully with an agreement that such meetings should be held every fortnight and emergency meetings should immediately be convened to resolve disputes when they arise. The parties agreed to meet again.

    New arrival issue at Zam Zam Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp North Darfur
    On 11 February 2009 a UNAMID team conducted an escort patrol for UNHCR officials and the UNAMID Director of Humanitarian Recovery and Development Liaison (HRDLS) to Zam Zam IDP camp. The team learnt that the number of IDPs has increased to approximately 3700. HRDL meeting was held with the Umdahs (Traditional leaders) to establish priorities for assistance to the camp.

    Humanitarian, Recovery and Development Induction Training in Nyala South Darfur
    HRDL liaison completed a five-day (5-9 February) induction training for 638 UNAMID Military and Police officers in Nyala. The training consisted of sessions on humanitarian principles, protection of civilians, as well as conduct and discipline issues.

    Carjacking North Darfur
    On February 09, 2009, three unknown men with a pistol carjacked UNAMID Land Cruiser in EL Fasher town at gunpoint. One of the attackers stopped the UN driver, took the vehicle keys and drove off. No casualties were reported.

    On February 09, 2009 two armed men in military uniform attempted to carjack an International Organization for Migration (IOM) Toyota Jeep in Kas market area (South Darfur). The driver managed to escape. No injuries were reported.


    Shelter and NFI for the influx of IDPs at Zam Zam camp in North Darfur
    On 10 February, United Nation Joint Logistic (UNJLC) released and dispatched emergency non-food items (NFIs),normally blankets & sleeping mats to Zam Zam Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp for distribution to 288 newly arrived IDP households (900 people). These items were distributed the same day by Charity Habitant Fund (CHF), supported by UNHCR. This was in addition to the first batch of NFIs released and dispatched by UNLJC on 7 February to 1723 new IDPs (550 people).

    Influx of IDPs in Dar Es Salam town North Darfur
    50 household fleeing the recent fighting in the area of Wada’ah arrived in Dar Alsalam on 10 February.
