Be cool like a British and hot like a Sudanese when necessary !
You will not find it in any textbook! It is my own carpentry.
Try your own. It may make sense.

Salam I made this one in a heated discussion about tolerance. "Tolerance means I hate your guts but I have to put up with you."

Re: Proverb (Re: Gaafar Ismail)

salam: I beg to differ. we tolerate things and actions that hurt We tolerate pain, sadness. loss have you ever heard anyone say I tolerate my favorite singer, or i tolerate his/her good behavior?
No I for one do not want to be tolerated, as in I am insufferable and people do not know what to do with me. I want to be an equal, accepted for who i am; not tolerated. Forgiveness is something else, I may forgive those who thought of me as someone to be tolerated, when they lose the attitude that forced them to tolerate me. tolerance was coined to accommodate hateful behavior. e.g. Oh we think black people are bad but we tolerate them.

Dear Asma and Aaisha salam
Quote: Tolerance means I hate your guts but I have to put up with you."
|
Yes, it is convincing. I am not against it . With due respect: What is wrong with "tolerence is a golden quality" ? What is wrong with forgiveness? My point is simply, if someone hurts me, I may tolerate and forgive him/her. And I think the result of my action is good in most cases.He/she may change his/her attitude next time.

I see your point Gaafar, you are taking "tolerance" from a different perspective. I live in a multicultural place where tolerance means just what i said above. it is used to indicate tolerance of a group of people. such as "We can tolerate Muslims" but tolerance from your perspective concerns your own treatment of your own behavior towards those who hurt you. that I understand.

Re: Proverb (Re: الصادق يحيى عبدالله)

salam al-Sadig and welcome aboard.
no tolerance is necessary unless someone thinks the "other" is not worthy of any relationship, hence it is only tolerance. acceptance is what we practice when we feel we are equals so not other 'feelings' intercepts our mingling.

Hi Asma once more As I see it, it is sometimes hard to draw a dividing line between tolerance and acceptance since the former can indeed be a component of the latter; viz. you accept discussing this issue with other contributors despite your reservations about their opposing views. Apparently, then, "tolerance" can also mean accepting with reservations.

Dear Alsadig Please forgive me for being too late to visit this page on time.
Quote: I'm afraid, composing proverbs with local flavor will deprive the new product of universal acceptability |
You are right to some extent. There are many proverbs that are acceptable only in their country of origin

Two Japanese proverbs:- 1- Even the monkey may fall from the tree.
2- Even the mouse when cornered bites the cat.
Cheers
