People in Mukjar locality, Central Darfur, complain about an upsurge in assaults on citizens in the past few weeks. Two women from Kereinding camp for the displaced in El Geneina locality, West Darfur, were injured during a rape attempt by militiamen, on Wednesday.
“The attacks and robberies have not only increased, but moved from farmlands and roads to the people’s homes,” a listener from Ambara told Radio Dabanga. He appealed to the state authorities to “protect the citizens, deter these Janjaweed, and bring them to justice”.
Rape attempt
A Kereinding camp elder reported to Radio Dabanga that two young women from the camp, located near El Geneina, were on their way from the camp to collect firewood in the area south of the camp, when three militiamen attempted to rape them.
“They fiercely resisted the attackers. One of the women sustained head injuries and a broken collarbone, while the other had her nose broken.”
