UN Expert discusses “September” demonstrations and apostasy cases in Parliament

Khartoum-The United Nations Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan, Mashood Baderin has announced receiving official confirmations from the Justice Ministry to prepare a detailed report on September incidents victims. He said” the ministry of justice confirmed to me that the report is ready and will be published soon prior to be submitted at the human rights session next September”.
In the meantime, he inquired the parliament on the issue of Abrar ( Mariam Yahia) which was convicted of apostasy, considering it as important for him. The Parliament affirmed that this case is now in front of the judge and will be followed by appeal stages.
Concerning whether Sudan will return to chapter 4 or stay under chapter 10 in accordance with the recent developments in the political arena, Baderin said in press statements upon a meeting with the legislation panel in the parliament that the issue will be discussed at the human rights council.
Ambassador Hamza Omer Ali said in statements in the Parliament that they do not think that there a disaster will happen to Sudan in field of human rights necessitating drastic change in the Sudan relations with the international institutions.
