The Ministry of Health in West Darfur has confirmed reports of a rise in the number of tuberculosis cases in the state.
The director of the tuberculosis control programme in West Darfur, Thoraya El Tayeb Abdallah, said that 236 people have been infected with tuberculosis since the beginning of the year. She reported the number on Monday.
El Tayeb Abdallah said that this can be attributed to the social interaction between West Darfuris and people from bordering country Chad, possibly leading to the high rise in the number of tuberculosis victims and immunodeficiency disease.
The programme director announced a plan to establish an integrated health centre that holds “all the characteristics of infection control” in West Darfur.
