Troika: Government is responsible for intensifying Darfur conflict
|
Khartoum-The Troika has welcomed the National Congress Party’s stated intent to undertake a process of national dialogue, confront questions regarding the country’s ongoing conflicts, poverty, governance, political freedoms, and national identity.
In a joint statement on the national dialogue in Sudan, the Troika has encouraged Sudan’s leaders to work in close coordination with the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel, led by former President Mbeki, to ensure that these goals are met
The statement has attributed raising some doubts about the sincerity of this initiative by some to the actions taken late by the government.
The statement referred to the continuity of war in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, bearing the government the primary responsible for intensifying the conflict in Darfur. The statement considered taking tangible steps by all parties to put an end these conflicts as critical to build the popular confidence in the process.
The statement said that the government’s restriction and increased repression of individual, political and press freedoms limits the space necessary for a successful national dialogue.
