There is no military solution for the conflict in Darfur: EU
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The Ambassadors of the European Union have confirmed that there is no military solution for the conflict in Darfur and encouraged all stakeholders, including the government, the opposition, the armed movements and the civil society, to support and contribute to an inclusive national dialogue process. In a two day visit to Nyala, South Darfur, exchanged views with government officials, the Darfur Regional Authority, Sudanese civil society and international organizations and the internally displaced people in Kalma camp. Head of Delegation of the EU to Sudan, Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, said in press release on Saturday that a political solution for Darfur should be a priority to everyone and be tackled without delay, calling on all relevant Sudanese parties to fight impunity, improve access and reduce counter-productive travel restrictions for the international agencies, so that these can implement their humanitarian and development mandates. He stressed deep concern about the continued increase in numbers of IDPs in the camp, confirming EU continued support to peace efforts in Darfur as one of the major development and humanitarian partners in Darfur. "We hope that we can transform our contributions gradually to development aid once the security situation improves on the ground and access is granted", he said.
