Sudanese refugees rally at UNHCR in Jordon
|
Khartoum-Tens of Sudanese refugees have gathered at the headquarters of the UN Higher Commissioner for Refugees in Jordon, requesting end of discrimination. The refugees have demanded protection, provision of necessary assistance and settlement in safe areas away from the areas where they are subject to repeated racial insults by some Jordanian and Palestinian citizens under silence from the police. The Sudanese refugees in Jordon are estimated to be 3000 including women and children. They are mainly from Darfur region in western Sudan where they fled attacks by pro-government militias. The refugees have urged the UN Secretary General to interfere “personally” to rescue them from the oppression and maintain their rights as “stateless” citizens.
