|
Jan 25, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudanese businessman has launched popular initiative to amend the Sudanese-U.S relations for which he called on 82 figures including civil administration figures, businessmen and Sufi Sheiks According to reports on Saturday he decided to start his call on Tuesday in the presence of the U.S. charge d'affaires and his deputy in Khartoum. The United States has had a troubled relationship with Sudan for more than a decade, a period marked by tensions over violence between pro-government Arab militias and rebel groups in the western province of Darfur, negotiations with South Sudan and the conflict in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile. The International Criminal Court has accused Sudanese President Omar Bashir of committing war crimes in Darfur. The United States placed Sudan on the list of states sponsoring international terrorism in 1993 and, as the conflict in Darfur flared, also imposed economic sanctions. Washington admits Sudan’s cooperation in the fight against terrorism, but added new conditions related to the end of the conflicts in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan.
