|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan has sent hundreds of tones of humanitarian relief to neighboring South Sudan to help thousands of conflict-affected civilians. Joint statement from Sudan Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, South Sudan's ambassador to Sudan and UN agencies on Sunday said that "The first 18 trucks, carrying some 700 metric tones of food for 45,000 people for one month left Kosti in Sudan for South Sudan. The movement of this first convoy is widely welcomed, as it will contribute to ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of the conflict-affected populations in South Sudan” The three parties said they are please to announce the movement of the first convoy with food assistance from Sudan to South Sudan under an agreement signed earlier in the year. The agreement was signed between the Government of Sudan and the Government of South Sudan to enable the movement of humanitarian cargoes. The statement described the move as "a major breakthrough" which exhibits a high degree of collaboration between the two governments and the support of the United Nations, especially the WFP which enabled the movement of this vital food assistance.
