Security agents have raided the house of a well-known acticist in El Gedaref state, detained three bystanders, and confiscated his laptop and a number of books, on Thursday night. “This deprives me from working as a home teacher.”
The activist, Jafar El Khidir, told Radio Dabanga that a security force, led by a lieutenant, raided his house at 9pm. They took two students, Abdallah Osman and Abbas Mustafa, and a third person who were protesting against the raid outside the house, in custody.
“I was not detained, but they confiscated my laptop, a number of books, and papers,” El Khidir said. “This has been the third time for the security apparatus to confiscate my laptop.” He suspects that in this way, the agents deprive him from performing his duty as a teacher working from home with a projector.
The “storming” of his house will not scare or silence him, the activist said. “I will continue my resistance to withstand the oppression and tyranny.”
El Khidir added that what has happened to him, “is zero compared to the atrocities happening in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile, where people are suffering on a daily basis because of aerial bombardments and gunfire”.
Sudan’s security forces have arrested, detained, and interrogated at least 17 opposition activists since early August, Human Rights Watch (HRW) stated three weeks ago. Most of those detained are affiliated to the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), which has an active student and youth wing that conducts public rallies and events.
