The Sudanese security service cancelled a seminar at a cultural club in Omdurman on Monday.
The seminar, titled ‘Urfani Chanting: concept and meaning’, was scheduled to be presented by Professor Haider El Safi at El Zahra Club, in Abu Ruf district.
The cultural office of El Zahra club has strongly denounced the “repression, oppression and tyranny practiced by the security services against the club by cancelling the seminar”.
In a statement yesterday, the club considers the infringement on its activities as “a comprehensive infringement on the club and the movement of culture as a whole. Targeting culture means the killing of a human being’s mind and ideas.”
