Sudan-South Sudan border demarcation committee meets in Khartoum

Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The joint border demarcation committee between Sudan and South Sudan will hold its first meeting in Sudanese capital, Khartoum, today, Sunday.
The Sudanese side is headed by Prof. Abdullah Sadiq, while Southern Sudanese side headed by Ambassador Darius Garang.
The meetings under the auspices of the African Union (the border program)
The committee will review the implementation of its tasks set forth in the cooperation agreement signed in September 2012 between the two countries
Before the start of the South Sudanese conflict, Juba and Khartoum agreed to normalize relations and to implement a cooperation agreement signed in 24 September 2012. The two countries have, however, failed to deploy a joint force to monitor the border because of their difference over the baseline for the demilitarized security zone called zero line.
Sudan and South Sudan inked in March 2012 a framework agreement allowing citizens of both states to enjoy freedom of residence, freedom of movement, freedom to undertake economic activity and freedom to acquire and dispose property.
However, it was not signed until 27 September as one of nine deals agreed between the presidents of Sudan and South Sudan at African Union mediated talks in Addis Ababa.
The delay was caused by increased tensions after a border conflict in April over the disputed Heglig/Panthou are on the north-south border.
