Sudan’s ruling party nominates Al-Bashir and 4 other for the presidential elections

Khartoum-Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) nominated on Monday, the incumbent President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir along with four others for the presidential elections scheduled to be held in April 2015. The other four nominees are first vice-president Bakri Hassan Saleh, former presidential aide Nafie Ali Nafie, former first vice-president Ali Osman Mohamed Taha and presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour. In statements after the vote, the presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour said that NCP Leadership Council selected 10 nominees to compete for the presidency of the party and next year’s presidential elections in a secret ballot on Monday, and 5 candidates were selected, including Al-Bashir". The five nominees selected by the Leadership Council will be referred to the Shura Council which chooses and ranks three of the five in terms of preference. Afterwards only one name is picked and tabled at the General Convention for endorsement.
